EARLY MORNING GLOBEX NET CHANGES: December corn is down 2 1/4 cents per
bushel, November soybeans are up 1 1/2 cents, September KC wheat is up 3 3/4
cents, September Chicago wheat is up 2 1/2 cents, and MIAX December Minneapolis
wheat is up 0.0350 cents.
CME GLOBEX RECAP: On Wednesday, September corn rose 20 1/4 cents, November
soybeans rose 14 1/2 cents, and September KC wheat rose 21 /12 cents. Soybean
basis strengthened on Wednesday, while hard red winter wheat basis weakened,
and corn, soft red winter wheat and hard red spring wheat basis held steady.
Wednesday's rally was a confirmation of what traders expected from the USDA
WASDE August data on wheat -- tighter supplies and production the lowest since
1970. U.S. and world ending stocks for corn were mostly bullish, neutral for
soybeans. Now to what everyone is talking about post-report: USDA's corn
acreage estimate on Wednesday was the second-largest jump from the June survey
and the largest jump for soybean acreage. When combined, the corn and soybean
acreage totaled 183.5 million acres, up 3.2 million acres from the previous
record. Where did they find the acres? A debate the market will likely continue
to have for some time. On Thursday, USDA will be out with their weekly export
sales report at 7:30 a.m. CDT, with data as of August 6. USDA will also release
a series of follow-up reports to Wednesday's WASDE at 1 p.m. CDT, including
updating the wheat and feed grain databases.
OUTSIDE MARKETS: The previous close on Wednesday showed the Dow Jones
Industrial Average down 21.58 at 53,770.27 and the S&P 500 up 20.30 at
7,748.50. The 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 4.682%. Early Thursday, the
September Dow Jones Futures are up 126 points. European markets are higher,
with the spot futures of London's FTSE 100 trading up 0.08%, spot futures of
Germany's DAX trading up 0.46%, and the spot futures of France's CAC 40 Index
up 0.25%. Asian markets are mixed, with Japan's Nikkei 225 Index up 1.16% and
